Phillips Snowcase 2014 Calendar Day #8

Dr. Funk Dunkel (Bavarian Dark Lager) – Phillips Brewing, 5.0% ABV – 341ml., (Victoria, BC, Canada)

more info about this beer can be found on their Snowcase website:

on the front-right label:

“Hustling his way through the mean streets of beertown, Doctor Funk, the grand uncle of dunkel, can smooth out any situation all by his sassy-as-molasses bad self. Let the good doctor prescribe a heavy dose of malts with this dark lager that’s good for what ails ya. Damn right.”

  • Style: Dunkel
  • Taste: Malt light cola molasses
  • Do I love this enough to drink it again: no
  • Would I recommend this to beer aficionados: no

Visual: Pours dark brown with a small disappearing head, a thin fine layer of retention, scattered loose fast streams.

Nose: thick caramel malts, light roast, brown sugar, molasses (lvl-5)-pungency

Attack: crisp

Mid-palate: fizzy, (lvl-5)-sweetness (MAIN) cola, caramel malts, molasses

Finish: burpy, airy, malty finish.

Summary: Decent, drinkable medium-bodied brew. Not much depth or “big” flavour. As with this style, low hop profile.
